INTERNATIONALLY celebrated DJ and producer Dipha Barus releases Batara, a hypnotic new single featuring the powerful vocals of singer-songwriter Jinan Laetitia, via Ultra Records.
The track, first unveiled on the main stage of Djakarta Warehouse Project 2024, brings together modern electronic beats and ancient mysticism, offering an immersive sonic journey for club crawlers and electronic music listeners.
Created in 2023 following a deeply transformative trip to his ancestral land of Tanah Karo, Batara draws inspiration from the spiritual beliefs of the Karonese people.
Central to the work is the concept of Batara, representing 'the higher power', a sacred force rooted in their ancient belief system pemena.
“This track is more than a song, it’s a personal story. My journey to Tanah Karo was profoundly spiritual, and Batara is my way of translating that experience into music. It’s about honoring my roots and sharing something authentic,” Dipha explains.
The collaboration with Jinan Laetitia further deepened the track’s impact.
“I first met Jinan through a mutual friend, and I’ve admired her voice and artistry ever since. When she recorded the demo for Batara, it was breathtaking, it felt like the song came alive.
"The creative process in the studio was equally magical, with spontaneous ideas transforming the track into what it is today,” Dipha shares.
Rich with layered production and haunting lyrics, Batara evokes themes of spirituality, connection, and nature. Its ethereal energy paints vivid imagery, inviting listeners into settings like jungle parties in Tulum or starlit gatherings in the Egyptian desert.
“It’s a song that transcends boundaries, making it perfect for intimate, otherworldly spaces,” Dipha says.
Following its electrifying debut at Djakarta Warehouse Project, where the crowd’s enthusiastic response solidified its universal appeal, Batara marks another milestone to share deep, cultural richness through music.
“It’s about staying authentic to my experiences,” he adds.
As Dipha gears up for an exciting 2025, fans can look forward to more dance tracks that blend Indonesian cultural elements with club-ready beats.
“This year will be a mix of pop songs in Indonesian and releases inspired by traditional Karo music,” he hints.
